In addition to preheating and post heat setting, the heat setting machine is mainly used for drying various knitted fabrics, and sometimes used for baking of pigment printing and polyester whitening. However, baking is generally combined with heat setting.

The drying of fabric on a heat setting machine can be called hot air stretching drying. It can realize overfeeding and stretching by means of pin chain. The width, length and density of the fabric can be adjusted appropriately no matter what temperature, so as to change the fabric shape. As for the stability of the fabric after this change, it is not determined by the heating history of the process, but by the space structure of the fabric coil, the yarn structure and the internal stress in the yarn, the internal stress in the fiber and the thermal properties of the thermoplastic fiber. For example, the most stable form of plain fabric of pure cotton knitted fabric is the state after washing with a roller type washing machine, and the width, length and density at this time are the best anti shrinking finishing effect. If the width and length of cotton knitted fabric are artificially enlarged or reduced on the heat setting machine without considering this effect, the instability of fabric size can only be increased.
